Phoebe joined the Graduate Group in Ancient History in 2023, after completing her B.A. in Classics at Pomona College in 2020 and her M.Phil. in Archaeological Science at the University of Cambridge in 2021. Her primary research interests concern past human-landscape interaction, with a specific focus on the role of geological phenomena – earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, etc. – in religious contexts across the ancient Mediterranean. Her other research interests include traditional environmental knowledge, geoarchaeology, geohazards, material analysis, landscape archaeology, settlement modeling, and classical reception in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Phoebe has also worked on archaeological projects in Scotland and Italy, including as the Ceramics Supervisor for the American Excavations at Morgantina: Agora Valley Project in 2023.
