Danielle joined the graduate group in Ancient History in Fall 2020. Prior to arriving at Penn, she received her AB in Classics from Princeton University and MA from Columbia University. She also spent a year in Penn's post-baccalaureate program. Her research interests include the intersection of religion and politics in the Roman Empire and the experiences of marginalized, non-elite, or minority groups within the Empire. To that end, her dissertation project, tentatively titled Embedded Histories: Belonging in the Maghreb from 1st c. BCE - 4th c. CE, is a social historical approach to understanding the multilayered histories and identities of North Africans living during the period of Roman occupation. In addition to her work on ancient identity, she is also interested in ancient slavery, marginalized religions, and epic poetry and its relationship to history/historiography.
