Angel Bustamante

Angel joined the Graduate Group in Ancient History in Fall 2020. He received both his BA (2015) and MA (2019) in Classics from the University of Arizona. He also received an MA (2017) from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. Having participated in the Mt. Lykaion Excavation and Survey Project for several years, he is interested in the archaeology of Greek religion, especially during the Archaic and Classical Periods. In addition to this, he is also interested in the Hellenistic Near East. This ties in with his Master's Thesis at the University of Arizona, which discussed how the literary themes of the Additions to the Book of Esther in the Septuagint compared with the later Masoretic Text tradition. With a longstanding interest in historical linguistics, he is fascinated by the interaction of the Semitic world with the Greek (and later Roman) empires, and how these languages mutually influenced one another.

Lastly, Angel also has an interest in the Apostolic Fathers, the Desert Fathers, and the rise of monasticism in the sands of Egypt, Palestine, and Asia Minor.
