Gwyneth joined Penn Ancient History in 2022 after graduating from Swarthmore College with a BA in Ancient History. Her primary research interest is dance in the ancient world and its various intersections with gender, ritual, and identity formation. She wants to incorporate dance studies and performance theory to illuminate the often limited archaeological and textual evidence of ancient dance. This research interest developed in her undergraduate career from her dance studies courses and her own experience as a dancer. More broadly she is interested in early Greek history and archaeology from the Bronze Age to the Archaic period. She plans to broaden her research to the Near East in the same period in order to investigate cultural exchange and interaction through material culture.
