This summer Jane Sancinito and Jordan Rogers took part in a field school excavation of a Roman villa in Transylvania, Romania. Following several seasons of survey and GPR testing, this year the team broke ground on a central building within the villa complex, at which a gatehouse has already been uncovered. Under a fairly shallow plow-zone the team found the wall segments of three rooms with evidence of a post-Roman occupation. The site is likely part of a network of villa complexes in the area, supported by the strong military presence in the region in the 2nd and early 3rd centuries
